The original outdoor Lido pool was opened in December 1964 and is a 7-lane, 55-yard facility with a diving well 4 metres deep with two springboards, a one-metre and three-meter board. There was an outdoor learner pool and a paddling pool then in 1983 the outdoor hydro slides were added.
In October 1989 new facilities were built including an indoor, 8-lane 25-metre pool, 16-metre teaching pool and fitness centre. In 2007 Jellie Park was closed for 18 months while a 2nd indoor 25m 8-lane 2-metre deep pool was added along with an indoor hydro slide, toddlers pool and upgrade of the aerobics studio and fitness centre.
Christchurch City Council own the Jellie Park facility and is responsible for delivering the Learn to Swim program.
